AI adoption rises, but turning it into business value remains challenge: PMI

Bengaluru, Oct 3 (UNI) Artificial intelligence may be spreading rapidly across businesses, but the harder task for organisations is converting that adoption into measurable business value, experts said at the 18th Project Management South Asia Conference (PMSAC26) here.
The conference, hosted by Project Management Institute (PMI), brought together more than 850 delegates and 20 speakers from across South Asia to discuss how AI is reshaping businesses, jobs, project delivery and leadership.
Amit Goyal, Managing Director, South Asia, PMI, said the challenge was increasingly about moving beyond AI adoption and translating technology investments into tangible business outcomes.
Citing the McKinsey 2025 State of AI report, he said only 39 per cent of organisations reported an enterprise-level EBIT impact from AI, highlighting the gap between adopting AI and generating measurable financial returns.
“As AI reshapes jobs, business models and technology delivery, India's strong technology ecosystem and ability to adopt and scale new technologies position it well for the next phase of growth,” Goyal said.
The conference brought together leaders from technology, healthcare, consulting, education and global business services, reflecting the breadth of sectors being reshaped by AI.
Ajit Chauhan, Chairman, Amity University Online, Ravi Kumar Dikshit, Global Consult Delivery Lead, Kyndryl, and Dr Geetha Manjunath, Founder, CEO and CTO, NIRAMAI Health Analytix, were among the senior leaders at the conference.
John Dawber, Vice President and Managing Director, Global Business Services, Novo Nordisk, Usha Srikanth, Managing Partner and FutureNow Centre Leader (India), IBM Consulting, and Sumit Taneja, Senior Vice President and Global Head of AI Consulting and Implementation, EXL, also participated in the conference.
Their discussions focused on leading transformation at scale, preparing organisations for AI, the role of technology in creating human impact and the leadership choices emerging in an AI-driven workplace.
The discussions also underscored that AI adoption alone would not determine project success. Organisations would need to combine technology with human judgment, strategic thinking, collaboration and the ability to execute.
The conference, themed “MORE, Together: Future-Ready in the Age of AI”, examined how organisations must rethink the way projects are planned, executed and measured as technology advances.
The leadership challenge, speakers noted, is therefore moving beyond deploying AI tools to building organisations capable of adapting to faster technological change while keeping people, business objectives and execution at the centre.
The conference also featured a keynote by bestselling author and columnist Chetan Bhagat on navigating change, leadership and the evolving demands of the professional world.
PMSAC26, in its 18th edition, brought together professionals across career stages to exchange experiences and examine real-world challenges in project leadership, with PMI stressing the need to build future-ready professionals as project complexity and workforce expectations continue to evolve.
